At Sweet Oak Collaborative, we believe that true community isn’t just about providing aid in a crisis; it’s about walking alongside people with unwavering dignity, compassion, and respect. Homelessness and hardship are incredibly complex, and too often, those experiencing them are met with assumptions and judgment instead of the real support they deserve.
Recently, we received a deeply moving message from a mother named Misty, who reached out to share her and her daughter’s experience with our team. Her words perfectly capture the heart behind everything we do, reminding us exactly why we show up every day to build a stronger foundation for our neighbors.

Esther and Sweet Oak Collaborative showed my daughter and I compassion, dignity, and support during one of the hardest seasons of our lives when we experienced homelessness last year. That experience deeply impacted me.
What stood out most was that Esther was coming straight out of surgery herself, yet still chose to show up and help others in crisis. In moments where many people looked at us and immediately asked, “Don’t you have family?” or made assumptions about our circumstances, Sweet Oak chose compassion over judgment.
They understood that homelessness is often far more complex than what people see on the surface. Sometimes people do not need to be rescued — they need scaffolding, structure, advocacy, connection, and someone willing to walk beside them long enough for stability to begin taking root again.
I believe strongly in community, advocacy, and helping people feel seen while also encouraging long-term stability and healing. Sweet Oak Collaborative does not simply hand out temporary fixes; they work to bridge gaps, connect people to resources, and restore dignity during seasons where people are often carrying invisible burdens.
